A SLIPPERY SLOPE – March 2, 2016

Happy March! I’m still trying to figure out what happened to February, my how time flies!

A few weeks ago I mentioned that the bank along Front Street is starting to erode and fall away. Well it’s gotten worse with all the winter high tides and high winds. Here’s a good example of the problem.

As you can see it’s falling off in big chunks.

Here’s a picture of the same area from the water side. I doesn’t look anywhere near as dramatic but gives you an idea of what’s at stake.

The Town of Coupeville has added a lot more barriers along the road keeping people off the trail that is near the edge of the bank. In this picture you can see the barriers and at the far end a city worker is marking out the road where then new trail will be. They are going to build a fence next to the road and paint stripes on the road to indicate the path.

The rest of my walk was uneventful although the sky in this photo looked a little ominous. I think I’ll call this one “Alone on the Sea”.

As I was leaving the Coupeville Wharf I spotted this U. S. Coast Guard cutter patrolling our little cove. At least I hope that’s all they were doing.

What I love about our walks is that there is always something different to see. I hope you enjoyed it and I will see you again soon.
