I got in what might be the last walk of the week. Nothing but rain in the forecast from this evening on through the week. The weather prognosticators are even warning of potential flooding!
Not only did I get some nice fall colors we also had a nice sunrise that made for some interesting shots.
This photo was taken yesterday afternoon in front of my house. It’s our fine leaf maple and every year it seems to get more beautiful.
This one was a little closer to town center. The morning sunrise really made the colors pop!
As day break was just starting to happen I captured the town coming to life on Front Street. This is what goes on while the rest of Coupeville sleeps. The delivery trucks and garbage truck were getting the shops ready for another day of fine dining and the exploration of our many little shops.
I walked through Krueger Woods and as I was leaving the east end of the trail I snapped this one of another walker heading into the beautiful sunrise.
And finally I found another “Haunting of Coupeville” witch display. This one is at Ciao Italian Restaurant where my band, the Island Jazz Collective, plays. The Wicked Witch is wreaking havoc along with the Flying Monkeys. To my eyes this is the best display!
With that we start another week. I hope it’s good for you I’m positive it will be for me. With any luck I’ll be back tomorrow for our morning walk but it could be a washout, stay tuned.
This morning I managed to bang out three and a half miles on my walk. There were a bunch of new witches bewitching Coupeville. It’s all part of “The Haunting of Coupeville“.
First stop, Sherman’s Pioneer Produce Farm with their painted hay rounds.
Most of these witches are self explanatory. I tried to include the business that is sponsoring them.
Coupeville Elementary School
Central Whidbey Lions Club
And finally my “Phantastic Photo of the Day”. Out on Ebey Prairie the sunrise developed but with lots of clouds above and below. I thought it made for a rather interesting photo.
I hope I didn’t wear you out buy walking so far, so fast. Yes “fast”, I averaged 3.5 MPH!
Enjoy your hump day and I’ll do the same.
This morning I saw something on my walk that disturbed me but I not really sure of the emotion. I showed you this “witch” on one of my walks last week.
Apparently someone needed the wheelchair more than Dorthy did because this morning it was gone. The mixed emotion comes from the total disregard for the display but perhaps a person who really needed a wheelchair.
Through the fog I spotted the Sherman Pioneer Farm pumpkin truck advertising their pumpkins for sale. It is parked along side of the highway. You can see the Olympic Mountains in the background.
This little patch of tule fog caught my eye because of the layers and the gap in-between, very odd.
With that we start a new week. I hope you have a really good one and thanks for walking with me.
These fall days have just been perfect for an early morning walk. It’s chilly but the sunrises have been spectacular. This morning was the capper for the week. The sunrise lasted for the longest time providing lots of photo-ops.
First up, looking across Penn Cove and Saratoga Straits at Mt. Baker basking in the bright pink and orange sunrise.
When I got to the Coupeville Wharf the pinks had turned more yellow but still a beautiful shot of the waterfront.
Just in case you didn’t know, last night we had the “Full Harvest Moon”. I got a couple of pictures of it when it was rising in the east using my cell phone but discovered that it does not take low light pictures worth a darn.
Fortunately the full moon was still shining bright this morning but it was darting in and out of the pink clouds to the west, illuminated by the sunrise. Here’s what it looked like!
With that I’ll wrap up the week and onward to the weekend. I hope you enjoyed walking with me this week and I hope you have a grand weekend!
After this morning’s walk I believe the theme for this years “Witching of Coupeville” is “The Wizard of Oz”! Here’s the proof.
These are all new ones that I didn’t see yesterday. I’m not sure who sponsored this one, it was by a rock next to a parking lot.
I also spotted this house with a Halloween display. I always think they should paint this house a brighter color until Halloween and the it really looks spooky, a perfect haunted house! I did mess with the lighting a little bit 🙂
And now for my “Phantastic Photo of the Day”! Yesterday was all about the birds but check this out. These geese are flying south and look at how many seagulls and pigeons are on the roof of the Coupeville Wharf! This place is going to the birds.
I hope you have a wonderful day and enjoyed walking with me.
Another perfect morning for a walk. I only walked two and a half miles but it was at a brisk pace. Speaking of “brisk”, it’s starting to get chilly in the mornings. The last two mornings it’s been 42 degrees F, time for a coat.
Out on the Coupeville Wharf this morning I was reminded of Alfred Hitchcock’s movie “The Birds”. The birds were very active this morning and seemed to be everywhere.
As a public service I thought I’d point out another defibrillator location. There’s a new one on the front of the Knead & Feed restaurant. That makes three that I’ve found. One on the west end of Front Street on Collections Boutique building, one south of town at the Prairie Center grocery store and now this one. Coupeville is going to be a great place to have a heart attack 😉
I spotted another witch this morning. This one is presented by the Coupeville Garden Club, a great group of people that work very hard to make our little town beautiful. This one is the “Wicked Witch of the Western Weeds”.
Thanks for joining me this morning on my walk, I really like the company.
Boy, it’s hard to believe October is here already, what happened to September?
This morning’s walk was really pretty although there were lots of clouds in the sky.
Every year the town of Coupeville celebrates the Halloween season with the “Haunting of Coupeville” which includes the witch contest. Businesses around town compete for having the best witch display.
I saw my first entry this morning at the Penn Cove Gallery. It’s the Tin Man walking the “yellow brick road”. The sign says: “Off to see the Wizard of Art”.
I hadn’t seen any white deer for a while but this morning this one posed very nicely for me.
Out on the Coupeville Wharf “Frank”, the great blue heron, was posing pretty for yet another cameo.
Finally, this shot, from the Coupeville Wharf of the Coupeville waterfront with the pink clouds, really caught my eye.
There, that should get your week going. I hope you enjoyed the walk and look forward to more as the week goes along.
