NEW LODGING – February 23, 2015

What a great way to start the week, a beautiful, crisp, clear, morning walk around my wee town of Coupeville. Get your shoes on and I’ll show you around.

First stop “Popeye’s House”. Not really but to me it looks like the kind of place Popeye would live. I just love the mist on the water and the contrasting sunrise on Mount Baker and the shadowed house in the foreground.

Just as I walked into town I noticed the chef at Knead and Feed was preparing some yummy pastries soon to be baked and served to waiting customers. You can not imagine how wonderful the smell is of the fresh baking bread and cinnamon rolls drifting across the street along with the mornings fresh air. I do believe I’m in heaven!

I thought I’d share a little of the weekend with you. We went to Oak Harbor for the Whidbey Playhouse performance of Monty Python’s “Spamalot”. It’s the first time we had been to the playhouse and what a nice little theater it is. The show was so funny I cried most of the way through it. We’ll definitely be going back.

We also stopped by a grand opening, open house, here in Coupeville. It’s a new vacation rental called “Float On Inn”. It’s really lovely with a private entrance and a fantastic view of Mount Baker, Penn Cove and the Coupeville Wharf. Winter rates are $125 a night and summer rates are $150 with a minimum two night stay. It would be a very nice place to stay on your next visit to Coupeville. You can call for reservations at 425-691-7132.

FIRE IN THE SKY

Welcome to the last week of October, hard to believe that the month is already gone, my my how they do fly.

I’ve been leaving later and later each morning because the sun is not coming up until almost 8:00am. This morning I looked out the window at 7:35 and saw some pink in the clouds to the east. I wondered to myself if it would turn into anything. A few minutes later it started to ignite. I scrambled to get on my walking shoes and coat, grabbed my camera and out the door. By that time it was at its peak so I quickly snapped a shot from my driveway. This should give you an idea of what it looked like.

I walked as fast as I could to get down to the cove before it all went away. By the time I got there, one and a half blocks away, it was pink. I managed to get two more photos before it was gone. This is Mt. Baker with a little hint of the bright morning sun near the right side of the peek.

Down on the cove is one of my favorite houses. I call it “Popeye’s House” because it looks like place he might have lived. It was really pretty with the pink water in the foreground.

I did manage to fine one more scarecrow that’s presented by Toby’s Tavern. The reference to is to them movie “Practical Magic” which was filmed in Coupeville back in 1998.

I stopped to check our my “still life” again this morning and the flowers were gone but the pumpkin and apples still made for a nice photo.
